Photos: Eating at Beach Side restaurant

There is no shortage of places to eat out and children are welcomed and well catered for. Generally the variety will increase the closer you are to the coast. Here we select a few favourites to offer a flavour of what to expect.

Walking Distance from the House

Maserof Wine Museum

Maserof is a 20 minutes pleasant walk from the house, an old farming settlement that is a popular lunchtime venue in the mountains. With an endless history, the Wine Museum building dates from Arab times and its enthusiastic owner, Carolina will show you around telling you stories of artefacts from the Borgia palace, and visits from Fredrick Forsyth and Keith Floyd. Closed in the heat of the summer, the restaurant has an open fire, great wooden beams and you are surrounded by antique furniture. The food is excellent, on our last visit we enjoyed wild boar hunted locally in Maserof, washed down with wine made on site and grown from Carolina’s grapes.

Jalon

Caramull

Perfect if you enjoy fine cuisine and want a night out without the kids. Caramull is an unassuming restaurant that is reputed as being one of the best in Valencia. We suggest you ask the owner Charo what her specials are for the day and she will look after you. The wine list is excellent offering an opportunity to sample some of the best wines from the Alicante region.

Restaurants outside Jalon

Calpe Moraira coast, Timon and Coral Beach Bar – On the water’s edge and close to dingy, kayak or windsurf hire. Upstairs Timon restaurant is a good evening venue with a varied menu and views across the water to the Penon de Ifach.

Moraira, Club Nautico – Situated in the marina, a wonderful location to enjoy a smart lunch, or an evening drink chilling out on the roof top terrace.

Javea, Pizza Pepe – our favourite Arenal beachfront restaurant. Excellent service, good homemade food, offering so much more than a pizza. We order a salad and a portion or ribs and a pizza or homemade nuggets for the kids.

Denia, No. 11 – contemporary urban styled restaurant bar in the main street, Marques de Campo. The menu mixes traditional tapas with international flavours.

Benissa, Casa Canto – a more formal restaurant situated at the top of Benissa, looking down at the coast, interesting menu offering well presented Spanish cuisine.
