Exploring the Valley
Right on our doorstep in the Valley of Les Murtes is ample opportunity for walking and exploring. Donkey rides can be arranged and some easy half hour walks make for a pleasant way for the family to spend time together in the early evening. The flora and fauna of the area may be of interest too, budding botanists and zoologists will find plenty to arouse their curiosity.
History
The Mediterranean was the heart of the Western world until the discovery of
America. Spain played a prominent role across both of these periods and many
towns have a continuous history from before Roman times. Denia for
example, was a Roman port named after the goddess Diana, it has a Moorish
castle and played a significant part in the Napoleonic wars. The coastal
settlements were vulnerable to pirates and many of the forts and look-outs
still stand today. Further inland is the evidence of the struggle to reconquer
Spain from the Moors. Guadalest is worth a visit to see a fortified hilltop
village in a dramatic setting, and in more remote parts there are cave
paintings to be discovered.
Children's Attractions
Despite the rural nature of the area, Caserío del Mirador is close to riding, tennis, bike hire, and in Jalon itself are two museums, and the thriving Saturday market holds appeal for children of all ages. Within 30 minutes, there are numerous beaches and within 45 minutes is the largest tourist resort in Europe, Benidorm with its four large scale theme parks, Terra Mitica, Terra Natura Mundomar and
Aqualandia.
Mundomar is home to dolphins and sea lions with shows and displays and a good play ground. Next door is Aqualandia a water park with pools and slides for all ages. We usually have tickets in the house that give a discount off the entrance price for both parks and can give plenty of guidance on how to get the most from your visit. Terra Mitica is a Warner theme park with roller coasters and other thrills. Terra Natura is a zoo heavily themed towards each geographic region, visit the elephants at the Taj Mahal, buy a samosa and watch the snake charmer. All the parks are remarkably well kept, have good food outlets, clean toilets and easy parking.
