There is a wide range of shopping in the area from local markets, specialist artisans, beachside shops, shopping malls to art galleries depending on your interests.
Markets
Many people on holiday like to enjoy all the outside activity wandering around a market. The fresh produce is Spain is beautifully sun ripened and the market provides food that has not needed to travel far, and so normally tastes richer and sweeter. Local fruit is especially juicy and sweet, something you will not find in a supermarket. Other than food, there are market stalls selling jewellery, leather goods, handbags and any number of hand crafted wares. Jalon has a rastro on a Saturday morning, something like a flea market. The main food market in Jalon is on a Tuesday morning, and each main town will have its own market during the week.
Jalon Artisans
Jalon is famous for its wine, charcuterie, and sweet muscatel grapes The main butcher in Jalon, Galan supplies all the best restaurants on the coast. You may have to queue a while but you can admire its beautifully presented interior that would not look out of place on the smartest street of any European capital. Close by is the patisserie Vicentica where you can buy Cocas (like pizzas), Empanadillas (small pasties), pastisets and biscotti. There is a honey shop offering a range of wax candles, scented honey and other natural products from the local mountains. You will also find in the town a pharmacy, local newsagent, green grocer and a number of bars and cafes to ponder where next to go!
Supermarkets
For convenience and long opening hours supermarkets are an easy option if you want to buy something quickly with as little fuss as possible. Jalon has a Mas y Mas that is open all day until 9pm, there is good fish counter, deli counter and good fruit and veg.
Boutiques, fashion, shoes and handbags
If you don’t have time to visit Zara and Mango when you are at home, the shopping malls can make a good destination for a break from the sun and give you an opportunity to explore Spanish brands. There are two malls close by, Ondara is about 25minutes away and Benidorm 45mins away. Ondara is better for places to eat, Benidorm has Carrefour and H&M.
